Despite the worst drought since 1917 and no irrigation water since mid-May, we are still getting a fairly decent tomato harvest. And they're bringing top-dollar, since most other local growers have lost the crop completely. Solar Set from Harris-Moran is one tough little tomato!
Unfortunately, the crew is working without me (maybe fortunately for them LOL). Last Monday I was hitching a small 48" tiller to the tractor and, in a dumb moment of anger, grabbed the drive shaft on top of the tiller with my left hand and jerked into into alignment with the hitch - and wiped-out my arthritic 75 year-old back! I have been very careful lately, as the doctor ordered, but lost it for a moment. It's probably "the straw that broke the camel's back", given my age. Oh well, it had to come sooner or later.

Permalink Reply by Jack Ellis on June 25, 2011 at 7:50am Thank you, Gus - I am feeling better. But I'm going to have to change my activity levels - I've got to stop handling heavy implements and stooping over for hours on end weaving toamtoes, etc. Problem is that our farm is an all-volunteer church project and all the others are in worse shape than me! Our young and strong members are all too busy raising families and trying to make a living.
