I know this is always a "hot button" topic but I think we need to talk about it some more especially in the light of our current economic condition in this country. I think we can find a way to begin…Continue

"I watched the preview on the web.  We only have antenna TV so we won't be able to see the rest.  Looks like it will provide some good insight into the life of the small veg farmer except I don't have a bunch of boys in their 20s…"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Brian Sparks's discussion 10 Things Farm Stands Won't Tell You
"Same with us.  First question is "Did you grow this?", next is "Are you organic?", or "Do you spray?".  I am happy to tell them yes and point to a sign we have explaining everything we offer is grown on our…"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Greg's discussion Nutritional veggies grown conventionally
"To me it shows how uneducated the populace is, thinking that a spray could possibly change the nutritional value of a food.  People don't have time to learn.  They are too busy with other things.  Just as I am too busy farming…"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Michael Parker's discussion What's everyone got planted?
"Well here in WNY I have managed to plant a small amount of lettuce, Swiss Chard, and spinach in a small hoop house.  Yesterday my wife and I managed to get on a couple of the gardens to pick rocks.  The others either have standing water on…"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Frank Giles's discussion E-Verify Requirements In State Legislation
"Wow, this is great stuff.  You have some good (yet sad) arguments Jack.  I don't have time right now to continue but what does bother me a bit is the fact that only three of us, (all small farmers), are the only ones commenting. …"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Greg's discussion Weather in your area?
"It is nearly May and I have nothing planted out in any of the gardens except for a small bit in our hoop houses.  I need at leadt 3 or 4 days of dry weather to be able to till ground as I have loamy soil as opposed to the gravel ground some…"

Mark Schindlbeck replied to Frank Giles's discussion E-Verify Requirements In State Legislation
"Can't afford to hire, (thank you NY govt). With all the technology today the E-verify system should work, and work effectively.  At least it would hopefully ensure a farmer has a LEGAL work force.  I for one don't mind immigrants…"

This is an interesting site. I will be interested in seeing how well it works. Might be a nice addition to AVG and AFG both of which are quality trade magazines of which I subscribe to.
